My wife Amy and I spent Labor Day 2005 in Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, Maine.

There is a nice park just offshore in Bar Harbor. This is where the cruise ships dock and people disembark. A very beautiful place.

Amy on top of Cadillac Mountain. At this point, 1,532 feet, if you care to hike up the mountain you can be the first in the United States to see the sun come up. They say that on the millinium that the top of the mountain was covered. It is one of 17 mountains on Mount Desert Island.

Cadilac Mountain is largely composed of pink granite. This rock was said to be of a much different composition so it is theorized that it was deposited here by a glacier millions of years ago.

Most of these arches were built by John D. Rockefeller, Jr between 1913 and 1940 especially for hikers, bikers, horseback riders and carriages. There are 57 miles of these roads. You can read a brief historyof the carriage roads HERE

This was the end of the ride and Amy posed with her South Carolina driver. I think she was flirting. The horses were Dan and Ann. Wildwood Stables website

Mount Desert Rock Lighthouse. The lighthouse is used as a whale watching station and is not open to the general public. There was a peregrine falcon nest just off to the right of the lighthouse. This was at least 20 miles out of Bar Harbor. You can see the history of this lighthouse HERE

Mount Desert Rock is the fartherest land on which a New England coast lighthouse shows its warning 'light in the window.'. The first lighthouse was built in 1830. It lies over 20 miles out from Mount Desert Island. We went there whale watching.

This is Bubble Mountain on Jordon Pond. We had popovers and tea there while on our Carriage Ridge. I had never had popovers so it was a completely new Yankee experience.
