I am working on this Genealogy that I know who connects Mattie Mason who married Robert W. Payne. Was she the daughter of John Tipton Mason or

Mattie Mason who married Robert W. Payne.. was she a MASON or a YOAKUM? She is reported to be the daughter of John Tipton Mason!! Well, after years of wondering with little help from anyone that apparently was sure, I found what may be the answer in a clipping in the October 6, 1899, Louisville Courier Journal. It has a small article that I am including in this new version of the marriage of twin brothers to twin sisters.

Although there is a clipping above that states that Daisy B. YOAKUM and Mattie Helen MASON were twins I somehow doubt that. Below you find the 1900 census of both Lafayette and his twin R.W.(Robert) and please note the difference in the birth dates. Mattie MASON PAYNE was born in January 1882, 9 months after John MASON and Dorcus YOAKUM were married and Daisy YOAKUM PAYNE was born in May 1882.

John Tipton's father was John E. born in 1854 and John E. Mason is living with his father, Benjamin F. Mason, born 1827 in Tennessee, in Oregon. Although incorrectly listed at the family search as F.R. Mason in the 1880 census, with wife Helen.

John E. Mason was a brother to Mary J. Mason, born 1856. I have included the 1860 Claiborne Census showing this family as well and the 1870 which shows Mary Mason age 14 living in the household of Lewis Mason and being a domestic servant. Lewis Mason born 1818 his wife Sevin born 1820 and has a son James McNeil Mason born in 1864. Lewis is possibly a brother to Benjamin F. Mason who is shown moving to Oregon on the 1880 census. Probably leaving Mary J. Mason a daughter behind. The 1880 census has Lewis and wife Lavinia with a son Tylor McNeil (no image available). John E. Mason and D.B. Yoakum were married 10 Mar 1881. The 1900 census has John E. and Dorcus with the following children:
