Hi Joe,

I saw the name Sabina Renick Livesay and recognized it as my mother's grandmother. Sabina lived with my mother in Toledo, Ohio until her death in 1942. I have numerous pictures of Sabina and some records.
Sabina's daughter Pearl married Ross Kerr from Gallipolis, Ohio and had two daughters: Mary Virginia, my mother, and Lucille Jean Kerr. It was really neat finding her on your page. If you want to contact me, feel free at djpeace@bright.net. Jeanne Miller

Hi Joe,

I am sorry but I don't know yet if I am of the Joseph Livesay line but will write a cousin of mine, Jim Rodgers and find out. He has been working for a number of years on the Rodgers' line. I do know that the Livesay's I am related to are from the Greenbrier,WV. area. I have a copy of a picture here "taken about 1865 of cave behind master house that hid supplies during the Civil War." Both pictures on Livisy (Livesay) Plantation.

Two other pictures list: #1. Mary V. Kerr (my mother), Sabina Rodgers, and John Rodgers, who I believe was Sabina's husband.#2. Picture about 1900 Martha Rodgers, Harry Mills, Lena Levisy Mills, Ira Mills, Nelle La Rue (niece of Grandma Rodgers from Tenn., Pearl Rodgers, and James M. Rodgers.

I do have Sabina Rodgers' photo album in Michigan where my mother died. As soon as I can, will comb her house in Michigan as she has an abundance of old pictures. Also, as I said, my cousin in Gallipolis should also have info. It will have to be by snail-mail as I don't think he has a computer.
His daughter, who is also into genealogy might though so will send E-mail address.

We were just in your part of the woods over Christmas as my son married agirl from Kodak,Tenn. just outside Sevierville. Certainly do love that area. My son had been the assistance golf pro at Eagle's Landing at Pidgeon Forge. He's now in NJ but looks to move south again.

Will look around and see if I can find anything more. Will definately be in contact. Thanks for responding!

Jeanne Miller

P.S. Do you know anything about the Renick in Sabina Renick Rodgers?

Joe,

I'd only add/amend the following info re the children of James the grandfather & Ellender Caldwell:
James Livesay (the grandfather of Calvin) 1782-1857 had 2 sons who remained in Grayson Co: these are James V. and Fielden 1808-1897 (not to be confused with James V.'s son Fielden, born 1836, & mentioned previously). Two other sons preceded their father into the Hawkins/Hancock/Lee Co. area: My ancestor Andrew Livesay (1802-1871, born Grayson Co) was the 1st child of James (the grandfather) & older brother of James V. Andrew appears in the Lee Co. census in 1830 through 1871. His brother George, born 1804, (child 2 of James the grandfather) appears in the Hawkins Co census in 1830, and died in Arkansas after 1880.
Brother Joseph eventually settled in Missouri. James & Ellender also had a daughter Nancy (b 1806) who married a Smith Martin;a dau Polly Ann (very little info) and three other children who may not have survived childhood.

I'm new to the list, & I haven't set this message or the last to the list, just to you. (I belong to another list which requests we not reply to the list, just the sender) However, that may not be the procedure here. I'm not sure--it seems like the question is still out there. I guess I should check with Tina--

Anyway, keep up the good work!

Your cousin,
Nancy R.

Patti,

Calvin Livesay (June 1834- Oct 1919) & John Granville Livesay (Sep 1840-Sep 1919) were brothers, both sons of James V. Livesay (1811-1900, born & died Grayson Co., VA) & Matilda Bird (1815-1886). James V.
Livesay was the son of James Livesay (1782-1857) & Ellender Caldwell (d 1849), and James was the first child of George Livesay (d. 1837) & Nancy Anderson (d. 1843). And George was the 5th child of immigrants Thomas Livesay (1730-1797) & Margaret Stones Livesay.

I'm a descendant of another son of James & Ellender Caldwell Livesay: Andrew Livesay (1802-1871), who married another Nancy Anderson. I'm also a descendant of (James' brother) Peter & Susannah Testerman Livesay, 1) through their son Thomas Testerman Livesay (mar Eliza Stapleton), 2) through their son Andrew Jackson Livesay (mar Mary Stafford Davis), and also 3) through their daughter Polly who married Abraham Testerman. All 4 of my father's grandparents were descendants of George & Nancy Anderson Livesay. If Abraham Testerman can be proved to be the son of Margaret Livesay & Peter Testerman, that would be my father's fifth line to George & Nancy (not to mention the multiple lines to Thomas & Mary Jane Testerman). So I have more than my share of some very good genes!

I'm especially interested in John Granville Livesay because a friend/cousin is a descendant of his & I suspect she may also have multiple Livesay lines.

I do know Mary Ann, but wasn't aware her book was out. Thanks! I'll write to her. She and her late husband George were very helpful in straightening out our Testerman lines. And she is the best person to check with on the location/existence of the will of Peter Testerman, said to mention sons George & Abraham.

Thanks again!

Your multiple cousin,
Nancy Resch

Joe: I have sent this information to the Livesay Society SEVERAL times.
I'm concerned that even though I continue to correct the wrong info...no changes are made. Esley Livesay (Esley Levisay) had 8 children. His wife was Marcie Brown from Logans Co., W VA. This information is based on sources: 1. Bible record in Marcie's hand 2.Information from my great aunt Levisay who talked to and knew Esley's children 3. Information from my mom, grandaughter of Franklin Harrison Levisay, Esley Levisay's son, who had contact with several of his children. I have sent information on these children, brief sketches of their activities during their life and places they lived, and where some of them are buried. How do I get someone to listen and get this info changed?

Joe,

I'm pasting a family group sheet for Milum (A153.97).& Mary Lula Testerman Livesay & the lines connecting George A15 to each of my father's grandparents.

These Milums ARE confusing. There is yet another Milum Livesay , born Oct 31, 1864, that I recently answered a query about. This Milum Wm.
Livesay is sometimes listed as a child of Peter Livesay Jr (A153.4), but was one of 3 children born to John McGee and Peter's widow Elizabeth Davis (sister of Julia Ann Livesay's mother Mary Stafford Davis AND great aunt to Mary Lula Testerman) . These children all took the Livesay name as adults. This Milum was Clerk of Courts in Hawkins Co until his death in 1932, at which point his 2nd wife Minnie Bell DAVIS became Clerk of Courts. So while their descendants are not related to the Livesays through Peter Jr., they are related to me through the Davis sisters. And fortunately there's a lot of info on the Davis ancestry/line that I was able to pass on.

I haven't joined the Lufsey list, mainly because I've been spending my time on my non-Livesay lines, which are less well-researched.
But I've been getting some queries from there, & I'm finding it's not difficult at all to get the info out of my database if I have it
So perhaps I should join_

Stay warm!

96. Carter Livesay

Carter was an impulsive, high tempered man and because of this he had trouble
living peacefully with his family and neighbors.

In his Civil War records, the late Ralph Mason found the following story: "Carter Livesay, of Kyles Ford, Hancock County, Tennessee, was Known as an uncompromising Union man at the beginning of the war between the states.
In 1861 some southern soldiers came through the county arresting Union men and taking their guns. When they approached Carter's House he fired on them, shooting the gorse from under one of the soldiers. Thereafter he fled to the nerby woods to hide. The soldiers came on to the house and arrested his father, Joseph, and took him off to prison. Carter's father died shortly after his release from prison. Carter and others remained in hiding afraid for their
lives. When Capt. Rose came into the county, recruiting men for the southern forces, Carter and others arranged a meeting with him and as a result were given safe conduct out of the county into Kentucky. There evidently was not a
clear meeting of minds as Capt. Rose, in his disposition after the War, believed that he had gained new recruits, but Carter said he thought outherwise. Later, when they were in Kentucky, rifles and uniforms were issued to them but Carter refused to wear the uniform and hid the gun under a ledge of rock. He never took the oath of allegiance and later when the soldiers were engaged in a sskirmish at Boston, Ky., he got away and joined the Federal troops at French Lick, Ky., and stayed with them until his discharge. The records futher show that Newton (his brother) did not go with him, but his brother Joe did. Carter served in Company F of 2nd Tennessee Regiment.
He enlisted Feb. 15, 1862 and was discharged Feb. 24, 1863 (disability). The papers show that he married at Blackwater, Tenn. Nov. 10, 1885 to Ellen Mullins and that he was previously married to Deborah Byrd, from whom he was divorced Sept. 24, 1865."
