his widow' s pension application. R. A. Yoakum of
Morristown, TN says Robert and Parkey lived in
Lonesome Valley about a year and moved over to Powell Valley, where he died
before his son was born. Parkey: Copy of papers
originally written by Henderson Yoakum says Parkey
was from TN. Richard A. Yoakum reports she re-married Thomas Davis who was
born 17 June 1793. She had married Robert Yoakum at age 16 and became a widow
at 20, then married Thomas Davis. She lived at Davis Creek Chapel,

Yoakum, Robert G. - Confederate, 7th Regement,
Tenn. Infantry, Co. E, Pvt., film #M231 roll 48. Some conflicting information
regarding a Robert G. Yoakum in the book, The 7th Tennessee Infantry in the
Civil War: A History and Roster. Lists: Yoakum, Robert G., born
1836, Claiborne County, occupation, Day Labor, Drafted 4/64, Captured,
5/25/64, POW rest of War, A Rootsweb database that has no
source says: Yoakum, Robert G. - Conscripted April 18, 1864. Deserted at
Hanover Court House, Va. May 25, 1864. From East Tennessee. Obviously this is
the same Robert G. Yoakum but which is true I am not sure. I go more with the
first since it lists source and the second does not. |
17i. Dorcas YOAKUM was
born 1857 in Claiborne County, Tennessee married John MASON and had a niece

Joe, I visit your site regularly I
used to live in Lone Mountain and my people were in Claiborne County before
it existed, 1st in what is now Hancock County up on Powells
River and then in the Clairfield area. I never see
them mentioned but the PARROTT family was there for many years. Anyway the point of my email is
the article you have on the "Descendants of
Robert G. YOAKUM" in particular the part on Ewing B. YOAKUM of
Lone Mountain. First let me say that as far as I know there are no ties no
matter how distant to this family but there are a couple of things I would
like to address: 1) Ewing, according to his
Headstone was B: 1822, not 1820 It had 10 people with marked
graves in it. I was told that a good number of the people buried there were
moved to another Cemetery in 1957. The Cemetery Assoc. placed a sign at this
Cemetery after we cleaned it but I passed by there a couple of weeks ago and
the sign is gone and the Cemetery is so overgrown you can't tell it is there. I have pictures of Ewing and
Martha's Headstone that I took after we removed the tree and stood the stone
back up. Michael |

+ 29 iv. Daniel Cawood YOAKUM was born Feb 1877 in Claiborne County,
Tennessee, and died 12 Apr 1953.
30 v. Mattie YOAKUM was born Jun 1884 in Tennessee.(This is possibly a mistake. The 1900 census
shows a Mattie Yoakum living in the same household and would put her age the
same as my grandmother Mattie Alice Livesay Payne
born Feb 18 1885.I believe this Mattie is my grandmother who had married Daniel
C. Yoakum but divorced or the marriage was annulled by her father George Livesay. Mattie later married Lafayette Payne November 10,
1901. If this Mattie listed was a sister to Daniel there was 7 yrs between them and what happened to her???) Having done
only a little research on this particular issue I can only say that the courts
of Claiborne County upon my grandmother Mattie Alice (Livesay) Payne's death required my Uncle L.G. Payne (Fate of
Chattanooga) as Executor of her estate was required to list her legal name on
probate records as Mattie A. Payne Yoakum. I placed a redacted copy HERE. Possibly only a political ploy to
intimidate certain members of my family .

There is another mystery here. I found in the 1944-1945 Progress
that while Glenn Yoakum was in the Navy serving in the Pacific that his house
beside the Centre Brick Warehouse was being occupied by Ben Livesay, Jr and his family.
Ben, Jr. was a brother to my grandmother Mattie Alice Livesay
Payne. Glenn's wife Leo Walker was living with her mother. Ben, Jr. was
operating a thrift and second hand bargain store that occupied the George Cosby Store. When the Cawood
Brothers, James and Claton bought the Hotel Duncan
they also purchased the George Cosby store. James Cawood
moved his family into the apartments above the George Cosby store. This is
the mystery. The same week that the Hotel Cawood burned
Glenn Yoakum's house where Ben Livesay, Jr.'s
family lived also burned. The Progress reporter also mentioned the fact that
this seemed a bit strange. The Cawood's had
promised to build the Hotel back with the insurance money from the fire but
never did. Not long after those fires Richard "Dick" Yoakum's small
cedar
shop burned at Midway. Dick also had been serving in the Army in WWII. James
and Clyde Cawood had several brothers and sisters.
One, Alvis Cawood married
Margaret Hardin. Margaret and my mother were good friends and I have several
articles that Margaret gave my mother. Margaret and Alvis
Cawood had a son who became a pharmacist and he was
robbed and beaten at his home in Morristown. His story had been featured on
"Americas Most Wanted"> Dick was the son of Ewing Henry YOAKUM who married
his cousin Margaret YOAKUM. Dick
Yoakum moved on to Morristown where he became a well known
"businessman/bookie" over there. James
and Claton Cawood were
grandchildren of James Roger Cawood of
Speedwell, TN. The Cawood/Davis/Yoakum families
are all connected through the union of Marsillus
Yoakum and Sarah Ann Cawood, March 2, 1832. |
