The newest development in the Lone Mountain area is Norris Landing. Oddly enough, I worked helping raise a platform and crane that was maliciously sank while the Intake was being built in the late 1980's.
A diver was flown in from Ohio and while working with Adventure Swim and Scuba we loaned him a dry suit and I brought air tanks to him while he raised the crane and platform from the bottom of the lake. It was used to complete the laying of lattice and pipe from the intake up to the pumping station. I believe the company went bankrupt while completing the task.

That is the Claiborne County water intake just in front of the then planned development in the early 1990's. Could this be an alternative to what TVA might have in mind for the Big Sycamore Recreation Area? I am sure that a Best Management Plan for this timber cut was never files as it is not a requirement by Tennessee to file on. My family decided to file a Best Management Practices and hire a consultant to do a selective cut of timber, which I managed. Although the development calls for a Best Management Practice plan I did not see any indication one was being followed. I have voiced my concern to TVA and TDEC through this email.

Since I wrote this way back probably in the late 1990's the Norris Landing Marina has been constructed. If you follow this link you can see the large marina and somewhere among all the boats and structures the Claiborne County Water Utility Intake and Pump Station can barely be seen.

Now we know what the name of this development will be, Shenandoah Springs. They will "develop" with lots of clear-cuts and grading away and moving of soil. 400 to 600 lots on over a thousand acres.

That is the water intake for most of Old and New Tazewell and surrounding area. IT was, when installed one of a kind in Tennessee, patterned after a Washington State plan. Meant to improve the qulaity of water by taking it from the top instead of the bottom of the lake.

Now permits have already been granted by TVA , TDEC and Army Corps of Engineers for a marina with over 300 boat slips a fueling station, resturant and pump out station.

This property was at one time owned by my family and my grandmother and grandfather, great-grandfather and great-grandmother, uncles, aunts and cousins are buried on this property.
