(1) William1 HARRELL was born in 1794 in North Carolina, and in Mar 1818 in Wythe County, Virginia, married (2) Elizabeth HURST, daughter of John HURST and Mary MCCARTY, who was born Feb 27, 1797 in Hawkins Co., TN.  William died in 1872 in Dallas County, Missouri.   Elizabeth died in 1873 in Dallas County, Missouri.

They lived in Claiborne County, TN in 1850 and in Dallas County, MO in 1860. They left Wythe County, VA and went to Claiborne County, TN around 1835 and remained until the late 1850's, then went to Dallas County, MO.

The Family Herrell/Harrell/Harold/Herald found in Claiborne County, Tennessee originated in the Alsace area of eastern France on the German border. The original spelling was Hearl. The earliest members of this family settled in Pennsylvania. They were members of the Lutheran, Reformed, or United Bretheren Churches. Around 1732 Jost Hite & Bautiste Jerome led approximately fifty families seeking better farm land to the Virginia Valley. The Herrell family was among this group. Some members of the Herrell family left Virginia around 1752 & settled in the Granville District of North Carolina. The earliest known Herrell settler of Claiborne County, Tennessee, was Drury Herrell from North Carolina in 1819 . He was joined before 1840 by Dempsey, Larkin & Noah Herrell, also of North Carolina. A William Herrell of Wythe County, Virginia, settled in Claiborne County around 1835. William Herrell is thought to be the son of a William Herrell who died in 1822 and whose will is found in Wythe County Will Book 3, Page 12. William and his wife Elizabeth were married by Daniel Lockett in Wythe County. (Ref. A. Marriage Register 1, Page 57) He is named as having brothers John & Reuben. William lived in Claiborne County from 1835 until the late 1850's when threats of the Civil war persuaded him and a few other family members to move westward to Dallas County, Missouri. Notes for Andrew Wayne HARRELL:

Wayne was married in Tennessee, but had been married less than a year and a half when his first wife died, leaving him with an infant girl. He remarried 2 months after his first wife's death. At that time he was still living in Claiborne County, Tennessee, but later he was living near Mammoth Cave in Knox County when his son, Frank, was born. He moved to the Ab vicinity in Missouri and also lived in Urbana where he operated a water-powered mill. Wayne served in CSA during the Civil war. He enlisted on November 1, 1863, leaving his wife with the children to care for and another one on the way. He served as a sergeant in Company D of the fifteenth Regiment of the Missouri Calvary Volunteers. He was discharged on July 1, 1865. He moved to a farm southwest of Urbana and built a house there in 1874. He was living there when he died. He told his family he wanted to be buried in the corner of Mr. Bullock's field, which is now Mission Ridge Cemetery. The Montgomery branch spell their name HERRELL. The information about the descendents of Montgomery was given to me by Eleanor McCallum. In her letter to me she says "Our line insists on spelling the name with an "E", which is the old German way." My research says the name was originally HEARL and that the family was from the ALSACE on the French‑German border. The Family tradition tells of an old grandmother who spoke French. My Grandfather told me that Montgomery Herrell had 13 Uncles in Ireland. The Family left Germany because they were Protestant and went to Holland, then to Ireland, and then to America @1730‑1750.
