4228. Zellah Mae SHULTZ

Francis worked for the Southern Pacific and Union Pacific railroads as a yard clerk. In 1920 he was a deck hand on the riverboat "Harvest Queen" that carried passengers and cargo between Portland and Astoria. It was one of the last passenger sternwheelers on the Columbia River. In 1941 he went to welding school and worked in the Vancouver shipyards, building Navy ships for World War II until 1945. After the war he worked as a welder in Portland. Zellah attended Eugene Business College, graduating in 1923 at age 18.
