Could this gentleman be correct on an assumption that William be the father of both Hezakiah and Edward Ned Jennings.

Dear Joe Payne,  I am trying to identify the parents and wife of ELLIS JENNINGS, who was bornin Grainger or Claiborne County in 1808.  Ellis JENNINGS was mygr-gr-grandfather. He moved from TN to Carroll County, MO in 1835 or 1836with a wife and five children.I have suspected that Ellis was the son of Edward "Ned" Jennings because he was listed next to Edward and Henderson Jennings on a 1831 list of Claiborne County white males 21 years old or older.  He was also listed along with Henderson  and John Jennings in a court order dated June 18, 1827 to work as hands to open a road from the corner of Edward Jennings field to the top ofa  bald hill.  Ellis and his wife and children also could fit into the ages and sexes of persons enumerated in Edward Jennings household in the 1830census.
However, the Edward Jennings genealogy report you have posted on the Claiborne County page does not list Ellis Jennings as a child of Edward.  I have speculated that Ellis might have been a middle name which would make it difficult to find him on legal records.  Edward's lineage report does show ason named Prior born in 1808.  However, it also shows Prior having a daughter, Emily, who married and lived in Claiborne County.  If this Prior was my Ellis I can't imagine why he would have taken five children with him to MO and left one behind. My great-grandfather, second son of Ellis Jennings, was named PriorPendelton Jennings.  He was born in 1831 in  TN, but married and died inCarroll County, MO.
Ellis' first wife evidently died after 1841 in MO and he married a Nancy Jane Heartless in MO in 1847.  Ellis had thirteen known children.  Eight by his first wife (name unknown) and five with his second wife, Nancy Heartless.  He died between 1852 and 1855 in MO.I also copied a Claiborne County deed recorded in Book F, page 245 dated 18October 1820 whereby John Jennings is selling 300 acres on Ball Creek toJoseph Jennings.  John Jennings states that this 300 acres is land that he inherited from his deceased father, William Jennings and represents hisone-seventh part of the plantation.  Do you know who the other six heirswere?  I am guessing perhaps John, Joseph, Edward, Hezakiah, Isham, and Royal (from Grainger County) might have been six of the seven.  I believe that Ellis is William's grandson even if Edward is not his father.I would appreciate any information you have on old William Jennings' line.
Thank you,
Fred Jennings

SECOND GENERATION

(2) Anderson2 JENNINGS, (Hezakiah1 JENNINGS) was born in 1794 at Wake Co., NC, and married (4) Zilphia MOORE, daughter of David MOORE and Aunt Polly  SHERMAN, who was born in 1810 at Claiborne Co., Tn. Anderson died in 1857 at Lone Mountain, Claiborne Co., Tn. Zilphia died in 1867 at Lone Mountain, Claiborne Co., Tn.
Notes for Anderson JENNINGS: A lot of this came from Reflections and the 1850 and 1860 Claiborne County Census.
Children:
5 + Eliza3 JENNINGS b.c 1827
6 + Anderson M. Zan JENNINGS b. 1834

(3) John2 JENNINGS, (Hezakiah1 JENNINGS) was born about 1810 at Claiborne Co., Tn, and married (13) Mary Polly MOORE, daughter of David MORE and Aunt Polly  SHERMAN, who was born about 1813 at Tn.   Here is a pdf report of John S. Jennings, prepared by Joanne Rogers.   Is John S. Jennings who is buried in the Payne/Hodges cemetery a son of Hezakiah??  He is said to have married Ellender Johnson after the death of Mary Polly Moore.
Notes for John JENNINGS: From the 1850 and 1860 Claiborne County Census.
There is some speculation that John Jennings could have married a second time.  The following emails will give anyone looking for the John S. Jennings buried in the Payne/Hodges Cemetery, my family cemetery, located on the old Doc Greer Farm, about a mile from the Hezakiah Jennings Cemetery speculation whether the John S. Jennings of these emails is actually the John Jennings, son of Hezakiah.  Please let the people who are asking these questions know if you have any idea.

I have just recently started researching the jennings line that I came from. I have been in contact with tispy@infinet.com  and she is in our tree and has provided some information, a lot more than I had but there are still some holes.
Here is what I have John S Jennings (born 1833 and Ellen (born 1844)
Children:  Tilda,( born 1864)  Mary, (born 1867) John S. (born 1870 (lived in Concord in 1939) Robert George or maybe George Robert, (born 1874, died 1902 (Rogers AR) (My Grandfather) Haley or maybe Mahaley Jennings (Beeler)(born Nov 2 1874) (tipsy's Great grandmother) Died Aug 14 1939 & buried in Grainger Cemetery, Sallie Jennings (Beeler) Born 1877.
Robert George/George Robert married Alice Satterfield and they lived in Rogers AR at the time of his death around 1902. They had three Sons Newt, born 1895, Howard  born Jan 10 1897 (My father) and Walter born 1899.  After Robert's death Alice moved to Craig County, OK and married a Barney M Johnson. After that most contact was lost the the Jennings family.  I have no leads on the Satterfield family. I have heard she was tied to the Acuff family.  All indications lead to claiborn County.   If any ideas please advise   Thanks  Carl E Jennings

Subject: Ellender Johnson is buried in Jordan cemetery, not Payne and Hodges cemetery

These folks are buried next to each other:
R. Matilda Jennings b. 1865 d. 1923 (Probably Rutha Matilda "Tilda") John S. Jennings b. 1812 d. 1891
Lucy Johnson Jennings b. 1811 d. 1896 (Probably Ellender "Ellen" Lucy Johnson) (Did John Jennings marry a second time?? Where is the proof that Hezikiah Jennings wife was Sarah Johnson??? Joe Payne)
Hi, Joe - It looks like Ellender Johnson Jennings (second wife of John S. Jennings) is buried at the Jordan Cemetery on Lone Mountain Shores and is not the Lucy Johnson Jennings (1811-1897) who is buried next to John S. Jennings in the Payne and Hodges Cemetery.

Take a look at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tncctca/jordan.htm . The Mary Jordan in the same cemetery has to be her daughter, who married John Jordan. My sister Nell Quesenbery confirmed that this is Ellender in the Jordan cemetery in a conversation today with Martha Beeler.

John S.’s children by his second wife, Ellender Johnson:
12. Mary Elizabeth Jennings (born Feb. 19, 1867 , died Jan. 26, 1921 ). Married John Jordan;
There is a 65-year-old John C. Jordan in District 3, Claiborne Co. 1930 census. He's next to the Arnwines, Johnsons, and Beelers. The Thomas Beeler on that page is married to Sallie. I believe she is also John S. daughter by Ellender:
17. (Sarah) Sallie J. Jennings (born March 15, 1876 ; died Oct. 22, 1964 ); Married Thomas G. Beeler. Children: Cornie, Francis ( France ), Frank (only on one listing), Jessie, Maude (only on one listing), Bessie, Tennie (married Watkins) and Lucy Beeler (married Longworth). Buried in Liberty Hill, Grainger Co.
I would imagine the children who died young and are buried in that same cemetery might belong to Mary and John Jordan.
Thanks for passing this along!

The question remains: Who is Lucy Johnson Jennings (1811-1897) next to John S. Jennings. She and John have about the same birth and death dates, but couldn't be his wife because she outlived him and he was married to Ellender at the time of his death in 1891. There is a daughter Lucy born to Ed Ned Jennings (1813-1896) with similar dates, but she married Isom Croxdale, so one would think this is not her. I can't find a listing for her in any of the Claiborne censuses. Now that we may have proven she's not Ellender, perhaps we can prove they are from the same Johnson line?
No one's come up with proof of John S. parents (he couldn't be Hezekiah's son because Hezekiah died half a dozen years before John S. was born). In the 1880 census, John S.'s father is said to have been born in Georgia and his mother in NC. Anyone have any leads there?
Also in the 1880 census there is a Mahala Johnson working at the Arnwines, who live next door to John S. and Ellender. Does anyone know who she is? One of John S.'s children is also named Mahala.
Thanks for keeping all this genealogy on the web!

This probably does not apply to your search for Matilda but here is a thought:  The marriage Index shows John S Jennings Marring a Ellender Johnson on May 21, 1867, then the 1870 census shows a Rutha Johnson (Age 5) obvious this is Ellen Daughter (previous marriage??). Then in the 1880 census shows a Tilda, age 16 in the John Jennings family.  Then finally in the Kine Jennings thing from DennyBrub, part !! para 1.3b shows John S Jennings, with spouse Lucy Ellen with children (1) Matilda 1864 (2) Mary E. 1867 (3)John 1870 (4) George R 1872 (5) Mahala 1874-1939 (6) Sallie 1876-1964.   Note it seems that Rutha, Tilda and Matilda is the same person, also Note that both Mahala and Sallie married Beelers,  Could Matilda have married a Beeler then a Satterfield. It seems that John S Jennings (Born around 1810) had two families as shown in the Kine Jennings Report.  The first wife was Probably Mary (Polly) Moore with 11 children with the youngest born in 1855 and all could have been out of the home by the 1870 census, the the second wife would have been Ellender.
The confusing part is who was John S. Jennings Parents.  The Kine report shows Kine Jennings with spouse Sarah (Sallie) Johnson with Children (1) Anderson 1796-1857 (2) Rebecca 1799 (3) John S. 1810-1891 (4) Shara (Sallie) wife or child and (5) Lacy.
Then on the Joe Payne web site there is a Descendants of Hezakiah Jennings and list children as (1) Anderson 1794-1857 (2) John Jennings 1810  Sounds real close to the Kine Jennings family??????  any help anybody .

Carl, et al,
I follow your logic and it appears to be accurate.
Here's some very important clues from Paul Johnson's Cemetery book. This is my Payne Family Cemetery, Joe Payne, located on the old Doc Greer farm, husband of Ethel Payne.  The farm was originally Anderson Payne farm.  Picture of the farm is Here.
Payne & Hodges Cemetery - page 164:
These folks are buried next to each other:
R. Matilda Jennings b. 1865  d.  1923  (Probably Rutha Matilda "Tilda")
John S. Jennings  b. 1812  d. 1891
Lucy Johnson Jennings  b. 1811  d. 1896  (Probably Ellender "Ellen" Lucy Johnson) (Did John Jennings marry a second time??  Where is the proof that Hezikiah Jennings wife was Sarah Johnson??? Joe Payne)
THEREFORE, it would certainly appear that this is, indeed, the JENNINGS Family Cemetery and one could conclude:
1.  Kine is Hezikiah
2.  Ellender Ellen Johnson is Lucy Ellen Jennings
3.  Rutha Johnson is Tilda is Matilda Jennings
4.  Doubtful that Matilda married since she is buried as a Jennings
I will need to defer to any specific JENNINGS researcher for conclusive evidence and resolve.  It would appear you are on track.
Did we send you our complete index of JENNINGS in Claiborne County?  If not please request it so you can review for more clues.  We can then send you a GEDCOM or family history of anyone you haven't seen from us yet.
Also, please keep us posted as to your progress so we can set our project straight, as well.  Thanks.
Hope this helps you all!

Joe:  The more I search the more confusing it gets.  The Initial objective was the find my Grandfarther George Robert Jennings.  I find him listed listed in the DennyBrub thing about Kine Jennings para 1.3  part of family wirh Mary, Jonn Mahala and Sallie, however I believe Ellender Johnson marryed John on may 21 1867, probably after his wife died, Maybe Mary Polly Moore,  George Robert was born around 1872.   Lucy I'm not sure, maybe her name could have lucy ellender??.   What I'm perty much for sure of is that George Robert was the brother of Sallie and Haley/Mahaley (Various sp) and maybe a John, (all born 1870-1876),  Sallie and Haley were married to Beelers.
George Robert Jennings married Alice Carnie Satterfield and Lived in Rogers AR until his death around 1902.

In Nell Quesenberry’s article TWO LOG HOUSES the descendants of David and Lou DAVIS JENNINGS.  She also mentions that Edgar JENNINGS was the son of Bill “Moss” JENNINGS.  This would be William JENNINGS below:
1880 U.S. Census

Walter Jennings 13
Fayette Jennings 11
Anderson Jennings

Notes for Robert G. YOAKUM: From Tennesse Cousins.

Henderson Yoakum, a young lawyer and a West Point graduate in 1832, was Mayor of Murfesboro, Tenn. in 1837. He was the son of George Yoakum and his second wife Mary Ann Maddy who were married in Yoakums's Station in Claiborne Co., Tn in 1807, in what was known then as Powell's Valley. He graduated from the Academy in 1832 and at once entered the U.S. Army and served in the Black Hawk War, and then resigned. He married Eveline Cannon in what is now Monroe Co. He came to Rutherford Co. and ented the office of Judge Mitchell as a law student, was latter admitted to the bar and began the practice of his profession in Murfeesboro. He again entered the militery service and served against the Indians under Gen. Gaines in the frontier. He came home and was elected Mayor about 1827. In 1839 he was elected to the State Senate. In 1845 he and his family removed to Texas. They made their home at Huntsville, which was also the home of Gen. Sam Houston. His outstanding accomplishments was the writing of Yoakum's History of Texas which is recognized to ths day as the basic history of the Lone Star State.

Children:
Cordelis Jennings - 1867–1955 married J.W HILL  Cordie” is buried in the Jennings cemetery with her husband   If the article to the right is correct other than the spelling of her sister Roxie JENNINGS HODGE it says that Cordie HILL was a sister to Rosie or Roxie and there was a brother Edgar.  It is possible that Rile was married twice as I found on Find-a-Grave that has a note that he married a Nancy Howard with children Jeff, Trula, Jackson and Lola. Nowhere other than this obituary do I find reference to Edgar JENNINGS.
Charles Tipton Jennings - 1869–1896
Letisha Lou Jennings Friar - 1870–1939  married a FRIAR
Lewis Jennings - 1871–1908
Laura Jane Jennings - 1875–1947 married a HOWARD
Edgar Jennings -  first married Gertrude CARR and after her death he married Ida PEARSON  Nell Quesenberry, THE FINEST FLOWER
I found the obituary of Roxie JENNINGS that lists Edgar as a brother.
49 + Roxie4 JENNINGS b.c 1877 the article is dated March 1950 and the Find-a-Grave entry confirms that Roxie JENNINGS HODGE died March 7, 1950 and was a daughter of Royal Sterling JENNINGS and Eliza Jane YOAKUM.  So it appears that Edgar JENNINGS if he truly was a brother was also a son of Rile JENNINGS and Eliza Jane YOAKUM.  Even though Nell Quesenberry says that Edgar JENNINGS was the son of Bill “Moss” JENNINGS in her article THE FINEST FLOWER.  And I do not believe there were two Edgar JENNINGS in Lone Mountain, Tennessee.

 (12) Betty Elizabeth3 JENNINGS, (Anderson2 JENNINGS, Hezakiah1) was born about 1846 at Claiborne Co., Tn, and married (50) HARPER.
